Appropriate use of 90846
« on: June 01, 2010, 05:45:40 PM »
Hi guys,

Hope everyone had a nice relaxing holiday weekend!

Need clarification on a 90846....scenerio....mom and dad coming in to see provider for a consult regarding their daughter.  Daughter has her own single coverage, mom and dad are Medicare.  Provider wants to know if it is appropriate to bill a 90846 in a situation as such to daughter's insurance????  I have never run across this situation.

Thanks!

If the daughter is the patient, then yes a 90846 can be billed to the daughters insurance for meeting with the parents. Just be aware that if your provider is also seeing the patient on the same day, the insurance company may not cover 2 sessions in one day. Most do not.
