Neurology
« on: April 29, 2019, 09:37:51 PM »
I'm new to billing for a Neurologist who does Botox injections for migraines, dystonia etc.   Can someone please advise me how they would bill a note showing:  Left levator - 25 units, Right Sternocleidomastoid - 15 units, Left sternocleidomastoid - 10 units, Left vertical trapezius - 25 units, Right vertical trapezius - 15 units, Right horizontal trapezius - 35 units, left horizontal trapezius - 25 units, Right deltoid - 25 units, Left deltoid - 25 units, Right triceps - 25 units.
225 units used
75 units wasted.

All he gave me was 64616-50 and J0585 300 units

Thank you for any help

I'm not a certified coder, are you?  I ask because I'm wondering why you are questioning the coding he gave you. Again I don't mean to keep saying it but I'm not a certified coder but the coding looks ok to me.

I'm sorry I should have been more specific … yes I am but as I mentioned I'm new to Neurology I did coding for Orthopedics which is comparable.   They have taken in a Neurologist and the 64616-50 was denied stating incorrect modifier or modifier needed.   Everything I've read shows it was billed correctly.   Also I did approach the doctor because he didn't report the EMG guidance.

Thank you for your response

Ohhhh.....that makes sense.  :)  So the denial just said "incorrect modifer or modifier needed"?

OK, so looking at it again I'm thinking it should not have the 50 modifier.  The code doesn't require the 50 modifier.
