Does anybody know if Lytec 2010 is good to use for a billing service? We're currently using something that works great but is expensive and thinking of switching to Lytec 2010 but it does feel like a 'downgrade'

What are you currently using?
We have used Lytec for 16 years. I've worked on others. We aren't using 2010 yet, we're upgrading soon. There are certainly programs out there with more bells and whistles, but personally I have overall been very happy with Lytec. We are billing for just over 70 providers.

You really don't say what your using for anyone to really say for sure if you are downgrading. Have you had a good chance / time to demo and compare important features?

We're using MicroMD which is comparable to Medical Manager back in the day. It's great for large practices but quite expensive for smaller docs. I do have a demo and going to look at it more closely this weekend.
My concern is how easy it is to read the patient ledger. In MicroMd, the drilldown is quite extensive so you can always find a patient payment even if it is split up among different dates of service.
Also in MicroMd, I can use the daysheet to control & backdate postings for monthend. Not sure how to do this yet in Lytec.

I think where you will run into frustration is within reports compared to what you can get now.

does any practice management software have the capability to check eligibility for patients. Can you check eligibility in lytec

We don't use Lytec for checking eligibility, but I do believe Lytec 2010 does that.

Office Ally allows eligibility checks, and we also use insurance carrier websites. We don't do a lot of eligibility checks, they are done by our providers. We only do them if we have a problem with a claim.

I have decided to go with Lytec and have a question regarding electronic billing. I want to use OfficeAlly, do I need to purchase a separate EB module and if so what do you ladies recommend? Also, do you bill Medicare and Medicaid direct or go thru OfficeAlly? Thanks for your input

We do Office Ally thru Lytec. No separate module is needed. We do our Medicare thru Office Ally. Working on Medicaid but haven't switched over yet. We've had a few bumps but Office Ally customer support is great and they've worked them all out in a reasonable time frame.

Hi Michele: Are you using Revenue Management Direct in Lytec to create electronic claims. My reseller tells me I have to purchase this for $1200/yr and it's only for 1 connection (ie Office Ally) and if I want another direct connection to Medicare - it's another $150/yr. Does this sound right?
What do you do for electronic statements? Can I just create a file and send it to whoever I want? They want me to use Billflash
Also, do you set up all your providers in their own practices? If so is it difficult to maintained since practices don't share master files like insurance or diagnosis?

We are not using Revenue Management Direct. We submit using Office Ally and Availity. No cost for either. Not even to get set up. I personally don't think that sounds right, $1200 a yr for one connection. Somebody's making some money! We used to connect direct to many carriers, but we purchased software to work with our Lytec to do it. Once we purchased, we could submit to as many as we wanted to though, not a per carrier fee. Lytec dealers are a dime a dozen, if you have one that is "pushing" you to use their specific system for electronic claims and they are not helpful with any other options, you may want to switch.
We create a file and then upload it to the clearinghouse we choose.
All of our groups/providers are in separate practices. You can import many of the databases, like icd's and cpts.

I've talked to 3 resellers and they all push their own software to do EB at about the same price. Would you mind telling me which software you use or recommend where to get it? Greatly appreciate it.
The insurance file is the difficult one to maintain. One change has to be done multiple times to all practices :/

I don't use any software (other than Lytec) to do Office Ally. To create an electronic batch I just print to a file, then upload the file. Office Ally will help you set it up. You don't need to use any special software. For Availity, I'm using my old system, ClaimManager but it's out dated. In fact, the company got bought out be Emdion and if it breaks down, I'm SOL. But I don't do much thru Availity anyway, I prefer Office Ally.

Hi Michele: It seems if you don't use Rev Mgmt then you can't auto post your ERA (especially Medicare). Do you not use auto posting then? Thanks for your response

Other programs will allow auto posting but you do need something to do it. We do auto posting thru Claim Manager but it's no longer available. They got bought out by Emdion.

Thank you Michele for the response. It seems when a large company buys out a smaller program, they either kill it or ruin it. I hate EMDEON. They have no customer service & are quite pricey in anything they deliver.

Yeah, it's a shame too because the company they bought was really good.
