Dx
« on: December 02, 2009, 08:42:45 PM »

Hello,

How would you code Autoimmune Thrombocytopenia and ITP ? Is it the same Dx? Is there a difference between this two? Can someone explain the difference of this two?

Thanks,
Yesica.

Unless you are a coder, you shouldn't be coding.

Since it is not clear you should ask the dr for clarification, or someone with ICD9 coding.  I came up with the following:

287.4 Secondary thrombocytopenia
Posttransfusion purpura
Thrombocytopenia (due to):
dilutional
drugs
extracorporeal circulation of blood
massive blood transfusion
platelet alloimmunization
Use additional E code to identify cause
Excludes:
heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) (289.84)
transient thrombocytopenia of newborn (776.1)

287.3 Primary thrombocytopenia
Excludes:
thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (446.6)
transient thrombocytopenia of newborn (776.1

287.33 Congenital and hereditary thrombocytopenic purpura
Congenital and hereditary thrombocytopenia
Thrombocytopenia with absent radii (TAR) syndrome
Excludes:
Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome (279.12)

287.39 Other primary thrombocytopenia

287.5 Thrombocytopenia, unspecified

289.84 Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT)

287.30 Primary thrombocytopenia unspecified
Megakaryocytic hypoplasia
