Cloud Based or Server Based software
« on: February 02, 2018, 12:06:09 PM »
I am interested in hearing opinions and maybe pros vs cons to using various billing software.

We are looking at using 2 different ones. 1 is Medisoft which I am very familiar with. The 2nd is a cloud based billing software called Practice Suite. I am trying to put a pros and cons list together with both of them.

I am interested in opinions between the 2 software but I am more interested between the pros and cons between server and cloud based software.

Thoughts?

Personally I have not been a huge fan of Medisoft but if your familiar with it then that is a plus.  Are you a billing service or a provider?  With a billing service the big con of cloud based is usually price.  Most cloud based softwares charge per provider or per practice.  For us that isn't practical.  We use Lytec which is very similar to Medisoft but in my opinion better and more user friendly.  We have over 50 providers and the cost is perfect.  Some of our providers we bill from their systems using their software.  IMO Lytec stands up well to most systems.  For us, not being cloud based has not been a problem because we use a remote login to access our system from anywhere.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for your response. Our situation is this. I have been at a billing company for 10 years and have always used medisoft. I have teamed up with 2 large doctors. Each practice has 15 practitioners. We were originally just going to use medisoft but the one doctor got someone in his ear that suggested cloud based. I tried to explain the costs and how expensive it would be . He negotiated a rate of .28 a claim for software and claim with no fee per provider like some charge. He has asked me to put a report together and to be as unbiased as I can to see what would be better in the long run. We have 2 potential new clients that would do 8000 claims a month so I do want to make the best business decision. I have the financial differences put together now I need to get a pros and cons list between the 2

At 8000 claims per month they would be paying $2240 (aprox.)  I would get some prices of cloud based softwares that charge per provider/practice.  Does the $.28 per claim include clearinghouse?  Anything else?  Make sure they aren't charging a la carte for everything.  I was not aware that some cloud based softwares charge per claim.  That is interesting.

How does he expect you to be unbiased when you have only used Medisoft? That's like asking someone to evaluate the pro's and con's of using a Mercedes when they have only drove a toyota. I don't mean any disrespect there but cloud based software's are going to put Medisoft and single side software's to shame in the "pro's" column. I can't think of even one out there that is not superior to Medisoft outside of "cost" and in doing such a practice analysis costs have to be analyzed based on the many features that would override costs. In this case the ends are going to justify the means.

Is it YOU going to assume costs? I'm a billing company and I maintain NO cost for software or clearinghouse as I access the clients software and utilize their systems. Why not let them go with their own choice and maintain costs?
