Medicaid billing process
« on: October 06, 2009, 01:31:18 PM »
What is the process for a billing company to start billing medicaid for a provider?

Also, if a provider is currently billing medicare/medicaid and you are taking on that provider what is the best way to do it to roll the provider over to your billing service?

Contact your clearinghouse for the appropriate forms for ECS, for Medicare you will need to list your company on the appropriate CMS 855 form, as the billing agent.

Thanks Linda,

What do you usually tell a potential client to take over the business, in respect of medicare/medicaid transition. How long it will take and what is needed.

It's approximately 2 weeks for Medicare and Medicaid and I've had commercial carriers ready to go the next day most times.

The CMS site is the best place for your Medicaid billing questions.  I just received my Medicare submitter ID and software access so I can bill Medicare providers and the CMS 855 is a great place to start for Medicaid billing approval.  Once you have the form and the contact information, there should be numbers to call for assistance.  The Medicare info line for my region has been most helpful and even assigned an analyst for future it help when I begin transmitting.  I think Medicaid does the same.

I have a new client, a psychotherapist, LCSW.  She has her own practice.  Can I bill Medicaid for her services?  She has a Medicaid #, but she told me she does not think I can bill for her services as she is not in a facility.  ?????
Thanks.

It depends on the state she is in.  Medicaid varies from state to state and some states allow LCSW's and some don't.  You need to check with your state Medicaid.
