Chiropractic 844.1 dx code
« on: March 28, 2009, 02:37:25 PM »
Michele,
Hello again,
I have a knee injury that was brought into the dr's office and he is going to use dx codes of 739.6 in the first spot and then 844.1 in the second spot.  The injury is from climbing a rope in gym class, and we are billing to BCBS are these codes correct or do we need a different code than 844.1 to get reimbursed from BCBS.
Thanks for the help
Kim

It would really depend upon what type of provider and what services were performed.  Both dx's are valid.

BCBS might pend or deny the charges for further accident details, so as an added note I would include a note about the gym class. School insurance is always last to pay if other insurance is involved, but the carrier just needs to know it was an injury at school, if you check "yes" off for "other injury" this usually causes the carrier to pend/deny for further clarification so you could avoid that added step from the get go.
