How to bill for a Chiro Sub
« on: August 22, 2009, 08:58:02 AM »
I recently started billing for a new chiro and I just found out he went on vacation for a week.  The office manager faxed me and asked what do they need to do to bill for the Chiro subsititute that is filling in this week and next week.

I have no idea....what do I need from them and what do i need to do in order to submit claims for my client with a submstitute/fill in standing in for him?

Thanks!

Don

Did he just get someone to fill in for him and leave you guys to fly blind?  that would tick me off.
There should have been arrangements made, all I could advise is to look into billing Locum Tenens which allows for a substitute to come in and provide services billing with their own NPI, etc for up to 60 days I believe. The Q6 modifier is needed. There are certain requirements that have to be met for a provider to bill under Locum Tenens and some are specific to Medicare. One of them is that the provider filling in must be credentialed with the carriers and I believe with Medicare the Locum Tenens physician cannot have his/her own practice.  I would research this a little bit. I only billed for one group that used Locum Tenens but they had everything setup ahead of time for us.
I remember that the group also ended up having a problem with their malpractice carrier because they didn't have coverage for such an arrangement.

Google is your friend...............

If you google first, you can always find something in relation to what you are looking for, and then if you don't understand what you have read, someone can help you. I love forums, they are very helpful, but sometimes people seem to want others to do the work for them. All I did was type in "how to bill for a substitute physician" and got multiple hits. They all equate to what Linda said..so good job Linda
