Hello~!
I have a couple of questions.
1. TO BILL MEDICARE DO WE HAVE TO BE A PARTICIPATING PROVIDER.?
2. IF NOT HOW DO WE GET THE PROVIDER ID #.?
3. IF THE PATIENT SEEN THE ORAL SURGEON AND TREATMENT WAS COVERED AND THEY WERE REFERRED TO GENERAL DENTIST TO DUE FINAL RESTORATIONS, WILL THE TREATMENT BE COVERED WITH THE GENERAL DENTIST.?

Hi Rosie,
Thanks for your questions. I will answer them the best I can.
1. You do not have to accept Medicare assignment in order to submit claims to Medicare.
2. You still have to complete a Medicare application but you need to indicate that you want to be a non-participating provider. Then make sure you indicate no assignment on the claim. They will assign you a provider number.
3. Medicare plans can vary from region to region, so I can’t be sure about yours. In our area, the Medicare website indicates that “approved services provided by dentists are covered” which indicates that if the service provided by the oral surgeon was a Medicare approved service then the care relating to that would also be covered, however, I would recommend that you check with your local Medicare office.
