global billing
« on: March 12, 2012, 03:13:11 AM »
I am billing physician hospital charges.  My physician admits a patient to hospital inpatient on 2-3-12 and proceeds to do a D & C (or any procedure that has a 10 day global) on 2-3-12.  Then on 2-4-12 my physician discharges the patient from his inpatient hospital stay.  Would I bill out the discharge for 2-4-12 or would it be included in the 10 day global period.  I know if there would be "other diagnoses" I could bill the discharge but what if it is only the DX that the procedure was performed and I have no other diagnoses?  Any guidance would be so helpful.

Thanks in advance!

Michele

You certainly would bill it, but it would be a matter of whether or not they pay.  That will be up to each insurance carrier on whether they include the discharge as part of the 10 day global.
