Medicare as secondary billing
« on: October 05, 2010, 08:41:35 PM »
I know this has been addressed before, so please bear with me!  Luckily, I have not had to bill Medicare as secondary since the days of paper billing for it.

If I send the electronic claim thru my clearinghouse for Medicare, how does Medicare get the EOB from the 1st insurance??  I assume they still want a copy of it.  Do you mail it?

Sorry if this is obvious, it's been a long time for me...

Thx, Bren

If you send the claim electronically then they don't get a copy of the eob, the information is all on the electronic claim.  I had trouble getting this when we sent our first secondaries electronic.  But they basically are relying on your entry to get the info they need.  And if you think about it, most of them are pretty predictable (i.e. they pay 80% or they have a $20 copay, etc.).

thanks!

I didn't want to assume the claim would be enough...with Medicare, you have to do things just so, or else!
