Room and Board
« on: April 24, 2008, 02:39:03 PM »
I bill for a substance abuse residential treatment facility.  We currently use a 1500, but I am researching switching to the UB04.  Most payers have us credentialed as both professional with our clinicians info, and as facility.  Is there a code to use for just room and board, to single it out as its own line item, for the 1500?  I don't yet know enought about UB04 billing to even know if it is a valid question for that form.  By the way, thanks for the wonderful site.  I ordered your UB04 book from Amazon.

Hi,
When billing on the CMS 1500 there is no code for the room and board.  Room and board fees are considered facility fees and must be billed on the UB04 form.  I think you will find that your reimbursement is MUCH greater when you bill out the facility charges separate on the UB04 form.  I hope you find the book very helpful.

Thanks
Michele
