2 Insurance Medicare and AETNA
« on: April 03, 2012, 11:23:20 PM »
Hi all,

My provider is a hospitalist.  I have a patient who has both Medicare and Aetna as her insurance and both are secondary. Both are adamant they are secondary.  I have called Medicare Coordination of Benefits regarding this patient, it has been 2 months now and the patient still has not updated her records with both the insurances as to which one is primary.

Medicare asked me to hold my claim until further notice. I was thinking of going the route of just billing the patient and let this be her problem. OR should I go the route of billing Aetna then get an EOB denial and then bill Medicare then bill the patient?

Help. I dont want this on my aging. :(

Thanks again. :)

Since it's Medicare, no I wouldn't do that. I would just let the patient know that you are still waiting, I'd also check back with Medicare and ask them what should be done. They are already in touch with the patient I'm sure.

I was finally able to settle this issue.

I just had to get the patient on a three way with Aetna Member services. Aetna was not processing and Medicare was not processing and its been months since they told me that they were touching base with the patient.

Whew! Finally Aetna will process as primary. :)
