: NPI vs Taxonomy codes
: CPOWELL June 15, 2010, 01:41:46 PM
one provider I have who lists his W-9 (EIN#)as an individual/sole propietor using the taxonomy code for an OB_GYN wants to hire another physician whose speciality is pediatrics but continue to bill under his EIN name and number but use a pediatric taxonomy code - question: can a board certified/state licensed OB_GYN bill for pediatric care by the utilization of two taxonomy codes? The other physician will be an employee not a partner and he also wants to hire another OB_GYN which isnt the issue, it is the pediatric taxonomy that has me perplexed and worried - does anyone have an office set up like this and what advice or suggestions can anyone give/help me with.  thanks in advance!

The NPI for the EIN# & Business Name can be set up as a multi-specialty group and have two taxonomy codes.  Then when billing for OBGYN services, use that taxonomy, but when billing for the other dr for peds, use the peds taxonomy.
