Need clarification please.
« on: September 26, 2011, 04:41:09 PM »
My provider has started a group practice where she is the only psychologist but will have other therapists on board.  She is bringing on a LFT part time who will be an independent contractor which basically she will work 2 days out of that week in that practice and the other days on her own.  She would like to know " whether she can be an independent contractor in a "group practice." And whether our corporate EIN # really covers her".  I have applied for a group NPI number for her which they have received and the group EIN they acquired last year". I guess she wants to know for billing purposes can the LFT use the group NPI# and her regular NPI# on off days.

If her services are billed out under the group EIN/NPI I don't know if it would be considered and "independent contractor".  The EIN/NPI will cover her if she is linked to that group with the insurance carriers.

She certainly can bill for private services under her individual NPI and as long as it is set up correctly with the insurance carriers they should honor her claims both independently and with the group.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Michele.  That's what I thought, I just don't like to tell my clients the wrong thing especially if I'm not 100% sure.
