MJ:
I would like to get my certification as a Medical Biller/Reimbursement Specialist. Can you advise me of a good online certification course? I have been a biller for many years, but I would like to get certified.
MDO VN:

thanks,
Kristy
Alice Scott:
Hi Kristy and MJ,
I was hoping someone who had experience in getting certified in coding would answer this question. I haven't taken either course myself, but I would try either http://www.learnmedicalbillingonline.com/cpmb_exam or http://www.medicalbillingcourse.com/
Alice
MDO VN:
Dear Alice,
Thank you for your reply. Actually, I'm not a biller yet, I have been completing some parts of billing process for 5 years
* patient data entry and charge into software
* posting of patient and insurance payments
* insurance claim follow up calls (claim status checker)
Sometimes I'm doing my tasks like a machine, I don't create claims, submit claims and don't understand all the meanings of denied reasons. (I'm not in USA)
But now I'm going to take full charge of 2 practices: family practice and anaesthetic practice, so I would like to learn everything from the beginning with basic knowledges of Medical Billing.
Thanks for your helps,
Kristy

Alice,
You would be doing yourself a big favor by going to Medicalbillingcourse.com. I just completed their course and like you I did some of the tasks but I never understand deductibles and copays and never did any actual filing of claims. Now I completely understand the process and it is not as scary as I thought it would be. I am getting ready to start the task of writing a business plan so I can move forward with starting my own medical billing business. I completed the course a few weeks ago and received a certificate with honors. I also just completed the course for Understanding HIPAA and should be getting my certificate shortly for that as well.
There is actually no such thing as a "certified medical biller" as of yet so you really do not need any schooling to begin as a medical biller, but it sure helps. Now to be a Medical Coder there is a certification process for that in order to work in that field. Me personally, I did not want to learn all the medical terminology, anatomy, etc. I did that to become a medical transcriptionist but I have never actually typed any medical reports other than what I learned in the course. I am a transcriptionist, but I work in the behavioral mental health field. That will also be my speciality in the beginning when I begin my business since that is the field I am familiar with.
Hope this helps, and good luck!
Lesley :)
