Title: Dental Billing
Post by: robinson7786 on August 05, 2008, 08:57:23 PM
Hello name is Cynthia,

And I am a new medical billing service.  I have been looking for information on billing for a dental office.  I have a prospective Dental Office interested in utilizing my services.  Due to my limited knowledge on billing for a dental office, I would definitely like additional information prior to signing the contract.  And will you be publishing an e-book pertaining to this subject?  Your e-books I have found to be quite informative, straight forward and easy reading (keeps you interested in the subject).  Also, the dentist office is struggling to stay afloat and has a lot of outstanding A/R.

Please provide any information and/or advise pertaining to my concerns.....

Thanks in advance......

We don't have any immediate plans on doing a book on dental billing.

We aren't currently doing any dental billing, but we have done it in the past.  It really isn't a whole lot different.  Your software must be capable of doing dental billing.  They use different forms, and have different codes etc. but it's the same principle.  I was nervous when we signed our first dentist since I had no experience.  It really was no problem.  I learned as I went.

Since the dentist is struggling to stay afloat and has serious A/R problems, I really think that you can help them, even without experience.  You just have to be aggressive about learning  and going after their claims that are outstanding.  It is always scary when you have no background, but I think you should go for it.  Don't be afraid to let them know that you don't have direct dental experience but you have billing experience and you understand insurance and you know how to get their claims paid.  They will tell you the codes and other things you need to know.

Good luck

Thank you very much.  You definitely gave me a comfort level and a peace of mind.

For some reason, there isn't a lot of dental billing information out there.  But I have reviewed the specialities you already have put into place and they were needed.

Again a special thanks.....

I guess I will sign that contract without delay.....  :)

Good!  I'm sure you'll do fine.

Just a couple things that might help you.  They have a code for cleaning, a code for fillings, a code for crowns, etc.  Then you need to put the tooth number, and the surface, which is represented by a letter (I think!).  But that is really all there is to it.  I was trying to think back, it's been about 11 years since I did it.

Anyway, a couple months from now you'll be an expert!
