Title: Very thankful for this forum
Post by: chandcox on September 02, 2008, 01:18:38 PM
I am beginning my own billing service from home.  I have billing experience and taught billing and codiNg for four years and am now ready to do it privately.  I know the potential of this field and am excited.  I have always been a member of medical billing forums but this is the first one where I have read the caring and compassion and true desire to help another biller in the responses.  Time is taken to answer questions and also to mentor and encourage.  I am just so glad I joined.  The relationship in these forums will be invaluable to me in the coming months.  I envision 5 clients by mid year 2009 at which time I will resign as administrator in a psychiatric treatment center.  I hope for more.  I'll have quite a few questions for my fellow members along the way.  Thanks for being here.

Thank you for the kind words.  We truly appreciate people telling us when they find our site or information helpful.  Unfortunately people are more quick to give discouraging words than kind ones.  The kind ones help us to get over the discouraging ones.  :)

Thanks
Michele

Hi,
It depends how much background you have in the medical billing field.  You definitely need to know about medical billing.  There are many good courses available.  I would suggest either http://www.learnmedicalbillingonline.com/cpmb_exam or http://www.medicalbillingcourse.com/ .
A totally different subject is running your own business.  You need to know how to run your own business.  You may have experience at this already with another business.  If not, you need to read about starting your own business.

Good luck

thanks Alice, for your responds. i looked at your books and see it pretty much covers alot that needs to be known. do you think reading your books might help someone without any previous experience in medical billing?

If you have no experience with medical billing, I would start with the "Basics of Medical Billing".  This book doesn't teach you how to do medical billing but it covers all the basics so that you have a good understanding of what you are getting into.  We try to cover everything that comes up in the world of medical billing in our books.  And of course we have the forum where you can go to find answers to any specific questions.  There is a lot to learn in this business, but many of us get started without previous experience.
