Title: Tertiary Ins Payments
Post by: jro on October 16, 2010, 05:34:20 PM
Please advise ---   I have started working patient accounts and have some tertiary insurance payments that have caused a credit on the patient account.  The primary and 2ndary carriers payments have resolved the claim balance.  I have conflicting instructions on who this credit belongs to:  the Patient  OR   the Tertiary carrier.   Please help resolve this confusion.

thank you for your insights,

It depends, some people have private plans and usually that results in them being "over insured" the credit would then belong to the patient. In some cases there can be an error so the EOB's have to be gone through to make that determination. For those that have a private plan it would look like they are making out with their medical care (making money) but they are not..they pay hefty premium's.

It really depends on the insurance each one carries.
