Title: Obtaining patient info other than faxing and pick up services
Post by: Eliza on February 18, 2009, 08:01:25 AM
I had a potential chiro who wanted me to do follow-up services. She insists on having me gain access to her computer system instead of her faxing over the patient info to me. We do not have the same software. Is this possible to do? If so, how?

Yes you can use gotomypc. Is she using an ASP or server software?

Thank you for getting back to me...Her software is called "Automate". I tried googling it and came up with no information. I am not sure if it is server based. Is "gotmypc" something that I down load? Is it safe to use?

I use gotomypc alot.  You don't need to download it, it is a web program.  You go to www.gotomypc.com and you can sign up for a free trial.  If you want to continue it is a monthly fee.  (I think $19.99)  You could always pass that on to the provider.

I'm not familiar with automate, but maybe you could just have someone in her office show you around a bit.  I find most software programs easy to navigate if you just have the basics.

Good luck

Eliza,

Our company uses LogMeIn.  They are reasonably priced and they provide many features.  You can visit their website by going to www.logmein.com.  Good luck to you.

Thanks for that Tammy...going to compare that to GoToMyPc. I'm on the free trial now, but I love to comparison shop!!!

Instead of GoToMYPC. use LogMeIn.com   as it allows for your own Windows login on the host computer.
This is the biggest difference on both. HIPAA requires an audit trail.
You have your client set you up with your own Windows Login on the host computer. You then sign up for LogMeIn.com and you are able to login both to their server as well as the host.. so it's added security and the host computer has an audit trail.

Whew!!! I went to the LogMeIn.com website and need some clarity...There are so many options and choices, what service best fits our needs.  Thought I'd ask before I started reinventing the wheel!

I use the paid version, the cost is very minimal and allows for you to make prints and download/upload. If I am working remotely on a client, one of the services they pay for in my contract is the "remote" access. I've never had one complain about paying this fee yet, again it's very minimal.

With LogMeIn, only the "host" computer needs to have the software installed. Not sure about gotomypc.com years ago when I used it both the remote and the host had to have software. Again, I mostly like logmein.com because you can LOGOFF and even shut down the host computer, Secure log on/log of features are required to be compliant with HIPAA.
If I was logging on to a host computer I first had to connect and enter login information for logMeIN. Once logged in there I would click on the remote computer I wanted to access and then I would logon to the windows logon assigned by the client.

I was just looking at that one the other day!
One of the benefits I'm marketing with the re-opening of my billing service is diversity. I'm not going to even mention the software of choice I'll be using, I'll be marketing that I can provide services using the provider's existing service and offering the option of setup with mine. Diversity will be the key to my marketing this go around. Too many billing companies turn down clients because they think they have to get the client to submit total control over when in reality offering the provider FULL control w/out the hassles is a benefit! Most billing companies only know their software and that's my angle. I've worked on them all and by utilizing services such as this or gotomypc I can do what I do best and the office doesn't have to change anything!

I agree, flexibility is key. What you are doing is helping ease the providers concerns about giving up what he feels is total control!

Very good points Linda.  I agree too.  I've gone into many offices where you just need to get into their system to see what's going on and if you are too rigid, needing them to use your software, many will turn away.  It is hard for them to change small things, so giving up total control is too much.

I use both LogMeIn and GoToMyPC.  You have to set up gotomypc on the host computer before using it as well.  It also has two sing in's, one at the website and then one to access the host.  That password can only be set up at the host.

Unless GoToMyPC has changed in the past year the one thing you couldn't do was LOG On or OFF Windows on the host computer. The Host had to be on and booted/logged on. using LogMeIn I can log on, log off and even restart windows on the host computer. That was necessary for me since I wanted my OWN windows login to the host computer for audit trail purposes.

thanks for that tidbit. I would always have to leave my pc on at work to log in from home with gotomypc. I will look into logmein for comparison.

That I'm not sure of since I don't have that need.  I use the gotomypc only for me to connect to my office computer directly.  It is in a secure location that no one else has access to, and no one else ever uses it.  All other things we use to logmein.

And technically speaking this "could" be a compliance issue, others walking by the screen, other users accessing the computer, etc. that one feature with logmein.com was my deciding factor between the two. For my consulting clients I am working with, if I need something I usually will call them and let them know I am logging in, I have my own windows login for each client, again this is good for purposes of audit trail. After I am finished I am sure to "LOG OFF" their windows and then log off my remote session.
I also of course use it to access my pc when I need to work away from my office, that saves me from having to have data stored on a laptop or another computer which is yet another risk I've reduced.

Exactly, you have to make sure your are compliant.  My computer is not accessible by anyone while I'm not there so no one can 'walk by' or see what I'm doing.  But you definitely have to be careful!
