Title: Is cloud-based/internet-based my only option???
Post by: TMCGEATH on June 03, 2013, 08:43:33 AM
Hello All,

So are Lytec and Medisoft about the only actual software programs left out there??? It seems like everything is cloud/internet based that I am seeing. Can anyone give me other options on actual software???

Thanks so much!

Go look at MDOnlnie, they offer both :)  .mdon-line.com

JMO, but Web/ASP is the best way to go for many reasons. No one was more against it than I was a few years ago. Remember when you get a standalone your NOT getting/buying the software.. ONLY a license.. same as the others.

Also don't worry so much about your own solution. I found one that worked for me ONLY if I had a client who needed a solution, otherwise many many practices have already invested time and money into their PM systems and in order to keep competitive you should be ready for any PM solution.

TotalMD has actual software (they have both installed options and an online option).  It is less expensive than both Medisoft and Lytec and far better in my opinion and I've used all three of those (I use TotalMD now).

TotalMD is the third vendor we established a discount with recently as well. I've only briefly seen the software, have not had time to play with the demo but seems very user friendly.

according to a Liles Parker (law firm that specializes in healthcare) webinar I attended, web based anything has so many breach risks.... :o  they recommend in house EVERYTHING..but that is just not realistic in today's world....

It's not realistic at all, especially with mandatory EMR coming..There are pro's and con's to each type of system. A good compliance plan along with policies and GOOD insurance can help minimize those risks along with other things such as making sure we are not using offshore medical billing companies. Many of us US based companies are being solicited by offshore companies, and their promises of cutting your overhead can be somewhat tempting.  Interesting enough when claims are transmitted via even an in-house / hosted and stand alone PM system the same level of encryption is used which is the maximum encryption level anyway. So while we may think we are safer using a standalone program, the risks can actually be the same in transmission of those claims/phi.

Which is interesting from a perspective of who they are an official counsel of. They represent a billing associate that seems to have NO problem certifying and advertising offshore companies.  Also why wait list? US laws are NOT enforceable offshore.. 40 years for them to tell you that maybe?

Offshore Medical Billing is a cloud-based network delivers robust reporting, tracking, and benchmarking of your financial performance. Leave the hassles of tracking claims and following up on denials to office services.

What's your point? On shore provides all same benefits w/out the risk.

There is no risk in offhsore medical billing and the benfits of the offshore medical billing are cost efficiency, time saving, risk management and data accuracy. Offshore medical billing is said to be a vital part of a hospitalís operations.

That is absolutely incorrect. OFFSHORE provides NO legal venue for any type of data breach, responsibility falls on the covered entity and/or BA back here in the states. Offshore has NO legal responsibility and US based physicians and billing companies receive all the liability.   THAT is more than a "little" risk.

Offshore Medical Billing is a cloud-based network ...

Note the title caps.  Poster is advertising a company, not talking about a concept.

What we have here is just one example of the bad communication skills between the US and offshore companies.  I do not think you understood when I said "legal venue"  has nothing to do with invoices. The legal venue is the place where legal actions reside. ALL Offshore companies are NOT required to abide by any US federal or state regulations, with any breach the responsibility and liability falls to the US provider or the US based billing company.  We will all agree it's "CHEAPER" to process claims overseas but the cost savings are NOT worth the legal risks.

Now let me save you the reply.. you will come back and say you or any offshore companies are fully compliant. That does NOT debate the argument of legal responsibility.

I really don't think MessiJack belongs on this forum.  I don't think we need someone that is telling us how our customers should be dropping us and going with his company over in India.

MessiJack, I think you are wasting your time here.

I agree with you, however sometimes letting them say what they need to say actually does more for our cause. :) Each post only gives us an advantage in educating US providers/physicians.

I'm currently working on a huge project to educate US physicians and billing companies on the risks of offshore outsourcing. This will allow the US medical billing company to compete with practical resources and hopefully put a dent in the efforts of their marketing to our US physicians.  www.stopoffshoreoutsourcing.com or visit our facebook group at: https://www.facebook.com/nooffshore
