Title: Authorizations for PT,OT and SLP
Post by: Reichl2014 on November 10, 2014, 08:21:58 PM
is there any link where you can find the steps for getting authorizations for these therapies. I do this away from the office and need to figure out a procedure to make it flow easier!!!

You must follow the instructions from each insurance co. Are you talking about commercial insurance or Medicare.

Merry is correct!  Each insurance carrier will have their own instructions/rules and possibly an authorization form that must be completed. Quite often it requires a physician signature.  Some carriers require that an evaluation be pre-authorized before you can even get an authorization for therapy sessions.  Medicare has their own set of rules and requirements.

For any type practice you can setup a flow process to which the office gets you the information needed to obtain the first auth when you verify benefits. I use a pre-screening form my clients use to get the info for new patient. For subsequent visits that need authorization and may need clinical info I run report on weekly basis 7-10 days before the auth is needed, office does those (that need clinical info)
