Hello....thanks for the opinion. That's exactly what I've been doing.  I was asked to do dental, but told them at this point in time I'm concentrating on the mental health area.  I've been doing for three counselors for three years and they are extremely happy.  I just lost one, but it wasn't because he wasn't happy it was because he was going to start doing the billing himself in the office.  He's experienced with management.  I've been doing exactly as you've said, studying the web and resources where ever I can get them, and taking classes with different insurance companies.  I just wasn't sure that it was worth it to spend such a large amount of money just to say I have a certificate, when I seem to be functioning quite well.  I think I'll save that money and maybe at some point in time when I'm ready to branch out spend it to learn more in a specific area....thanks again for the opinion..

I agree with Charlene, the best training is experience.  However, there are many out there who will say "you must be certified".  Everyone has there own thoughts and opinions on it.  If you have been doing this for 3 yrs, and you are comfortable where you are, I don't see the need.  Charlene is right (again!!!!), if you don't know a field, it may not be a good idea to jump in.  I have taken specialties I'm not horribly familiar with but only if I am comfortable.  For example, I've done a lot of PT, Chiros, etc, when I got a call from a speech therapist.  I hadn't specifically done ST however, my daughter gets ST, I use to process ST claims, and I'm familiar with the codes.  I didn't have a problem taking them even though I had no specific experience.  I was familiar enough with the field I felt comfortable.  If you have a resource to help you, that's great too.

Yes Michelle, I got my certification as an "addition" to my experience. I am one that will take experience over certification, but having both makes you a double threat!!

I have to agree, it's my personal experience and opinion that the certification held is ONLY as good as the education you received to get it. There are still Associations out there that will tell you it's necessary, needed, etc. The bottom line is that any certification should be reviewed first on the merit's of that educational program/course. Don't buy into those selling you a few alphabets after your name so they make a few bucks. LOOK at the educational material provided and ask yourself if it will BETTER enable you to do your job.. don't look at the certification. I have NEVER been asked by a client to produce these certifications. When I do offer them up they have no clue who of the group/association behind the certification.

I'm not sure what is going wrong, this question posted ok.

Anyway, anesthesia is billed separate from the surgery.  I'm not really what you are referring to though when you say 'two exceptions for types of services that are not included and can be billed separately from the CPT Surgical Package".

If you click on this post, then click reply, type your response then click 'post'.

Hi, I would like to know if the courses that the association offers are self-paced, specifically the facility certificate.
Thank you  :)

Hi Cinda,

I believe you are referring to the PMBA, as I rec'd a message from you.  Yes, the Facility Billing Course is self-paced.  The required book is Alice and Michele's UB-04 E-book.
