Medicaid - Nursery Versus NICU revenue codes 170, 171, 172, 173, 174

If you have a hospital with a NICU department and a Nursery Department and can use the following revenue codes:170, 171, 172, 173, 174. Which codes are grouped with Nursery and which for NICU. I thought it was always: 170, 171, 172 are Nursery and 173, 174 are NICU. But I have seen some hoapitals use 172 for both Nursery and NICU.

The codes are described as follows:

170 - Nursery, General Classification
171 - Nursery, Newborn, Level I
172 - Nursery, Newborn, Level II
173 - Nursery, Newborn, Level III
174 - Nursery, Newborn, Level IV

It isn't broken down by Nursery or NICU.  It depends on what level your facility considers regular nursery care and what is NICU.
