Just an ad I saw placed on Craigs List.

MEDICAL BILLER (RALEIGH, NC)
Date: 2011-02-11, 8:22AM EST


We are a successful Sleep Disorder Center located just outside Raleigh, NC. We are seeking a professional, hard-working, very organized, honest, self-starter to do medical billing for our company. Experience in billing DME (Durable Medical Equipment) for CPAP and billing for Sleep Studies is highly preferred. Extensive Medicare billing experience is an absolute requirement for this position. Completion of Medical Billing course IS NOT SUFFICIENT without at least two years of practical billing experience. This is a full-time position and we offer extensive company benefits.

DETAILS OF POSITION INCLUDE:
Complete understanding of EOB's.
Advanced knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT coding.
Work denials & appeals.
Obtain claim status, claim appeals & authorizations.
Run weekly and monthly reports to ensure all claims are being addressed.
Resolve all collection issues as they arise.
Posting charges, payments, medical insurance claims and submissions.
Submission of claims electronically and by paper.

REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to meet deadlines on multiple projects
Be able to work independently as well as be accountable for work assigned.
Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and patient medical record software is required.
Must have excellent communication skills
Professional phone manner, appearance and strong work ethic

and???? I already emailed this provider and it wasn't an issue  so pointing it out on something that wasn't the subject matter was irrelevant. As I stated the PURPOSE of the email was regarding experience and what they are looking for. If you want to go off topic  ok....Since you are NOT a craigs list person, you may not know but its the DEFAULT of any craigs list ad you post. Unless you update it, it comes out like that.

Pediatric Clinic in Fayetteville NC is seeking an Medical Office Manager with Billing experience or Medical office Biller. Applicant must be very proficient in dealing with insurance companies and all aspects of medical office billing, to include (but not limited to) ICD-9 coding, CPT coding, insurance filing, quickly finding, correcting, and resubmitting any denials. The proper candidate should be self motivated, aggressive in their billing/collections, friendly, and most of all, trustworthy. Great friendly environment to work in.

- Must pay attention to detail



DUTIES:

- Patient Billing

- Coding

- Supervision of office staff

- Referrals

- Patient insurance

- Company financials

- Assisting with patient questions

- Other duties as needed

Look we are all entitled to our opinions.  When you posted this you chose to highlight the section about experience.  Linda chose to point out the section on not contacting for other services.  If they didn't mind you contacting them then maybe they don't care so much on the experience either.  I don't want to fight it out, I'm just saying, you can interpret this the way you want to, and others can interpret it their way.

Whether it's a default or not, your medical billing company is a "commercial interest" I'm sorry, but I was just pointing out and highlighting a section myself. Whether it was a problem that you contacted them wasn't my point. It was clearly stated above..."Please do not contact job poster about other services, products or commercial interests."  The lasts posts about this we did talk about etiquette and following directives. And ignoring a directive like that would be improper business etiquette.

After reading the post I believe the posting was done incorrectly. If you are posting regarding experience the information that should have been involved in the post is the experience and what is needed to get a position in the field. It's unfortunate that this caused such a ill response from the poster which indicate a person who in not keen to criticism. Agreed, her insight and experience will be missed, but she went off and I don't understand why.  I'm so sad that so many people take things so personally and turn it into an attack.  We need to appreciate each other's experiences and learn and grow and apply them to our lives.  Some of us will be hard line, by the book (I will not break the law for anyone and thank Linda for always pointing out the LEGAL thing to do) and others will have to determine how "flexible" they want to be. (Some Craig's list nuances are not within the realm of my experience and appreciate that some people can benefit by trying to get this business)

I also appreciate the ETHICS of business and firmly believe that ethics and morals and work ethic will serve the up and coming billers and coders.  I know I'll catch some flak for this and I know this is a forum, but our posts should be written well, with the best grammar we have, spelled as well as we can.  This is the beginning of good business communication and we should use this forum to build our abilities. 

I'm SO grateful for all the help I've received since joining, and hope my limited experience (I only bill Chiropractic and only in California) can help someone else. 

Thank you for this forum, and I hope this blow up doesn't leave a bad taste in someone's mouth.

Thank you all for your support.  I totally agree.  The different personalities are what make this forum, and the world, an interesting place.  I appreciated Charlene's input and she has helped several.  For some reason she seemed to feel it necessary to attack others interpretations and opinions and felt that anyone who didn't agree was attacking her.  She also had recently quite often dragged Alice and myself into comments but had her information incorrect.  We tried to allow the differences, thinking it would calm down, but unfortunately it didn't.  And some of the misinformation she stated had to be addressed.  She definitely added personality.  ;)

Anyway, we are so thankful to all of the other members who contribute to this forum.  Thanks to Linda for her help in moderating and making sure we keep the spam out!  And of course sharing her knowledge!   ;D

I agree this forum did get out of hand however it takes two to tango, I will it at that in regards to the outburst.

It does seem like in this forum a lot of the experienced billers are more critical of us newbies and do not give a positive outlook and and hardly any encouargement.  I have gotten this from a few newbies who just read and never post because they feel attacked when comments are made in regards to lack of experience or how much they have over a new biller.  In my opinion at times it seems as if experienced billers don't want the new billers to start a billing service becuase of all the other services that give home based billing services a bad name.

I agree with this forum being for professional billers and spelling should be checked but this is a forum for us billers to vent, give and receive advice and also to share ideas.  I don't believe in "proper etiquette" for this forum because I guarantee you that if you were to go to a forum your provider belongs to they are probably using short hand, "LOL's, LMAO, & idk" just like we do in this forum.  If we are not able to come to this forum and use "internet slang" then what is the point in being ourselves.  I am not saying that we should not write out complete sentences and thoughts but speeking "proper" all the time in a friendly professional forum may not always work.That's just my opinion

I see what you mean regarding newbies, I'm relatively new myself, but when you read all the threads, and take all the information of a piece you'll see how valuable the information is. 

Linda recently asked an ABN question.  Linda!  We all need help sometimes and this a great place to get it.  I had to get thicker skin when I got/get/still get corrected.  It's not personal, it's not meant to be discouraging but realistic and it will help you be stronger.  You'll be able to answer your providers better and with more authority.  That will get you more work!

I will admit to being a bit "prudish" about the internet lingo.  I'm old.   ;D   I don't mind the abbreviations for sense of humor (LMAO, see I know some....).  I'm uptight, but not that uptight.  What I meant was the trashy talk.

I think people didn't understand why she went off because in a previous thread we were discussing Craigs List and ad's in general. I thought it improper etiquette to disregard a directive in the ad..she did not. No matter how many times I told her it was MY opinion, she took it personally as if she needed to defend her opinion.. whatever. When she started this thread she highlighted a portion about "experience required"  so I posted and highlighted the part about..  "* Please do not contact job poster about other services, products or commercial interests.'' because both of those topics were mentioned in that previous thread.  She offered her input (in bold) and i just did the same with my input. That is when she went off.

I am ALL for making sure people know this is NOT a career equal to selling Avon, or party planning, however I will always believe that anyone who WANTS to succeed WILL succeed. Being told "NO" because of lack of experience is not a good enough reason to give up or throw in the towel. KNOWLEDGE can actually TRUMP experience if you have enough of it. CONFIDENCE will trump experience if you have enough of it.  Shame on anyone who tells people not to bother.. it's too hard, you don't have enough experience. But also shame on the ones that will tell people "You can make $30,0000 a year working 2 hours a day in your pj's" There is a big difference.

As for grammar/typo's. I admit, I AM GUILTY!!  I think it's because I write from my own passion, I'm not one to really go through something before I hit "post"..but then again, often I'm not one for speaking before I think either!  ::)  Always things to work on among ourselves. :)

Different personalities are great.. where I have a problem is the name calling, the cursing. etc. There is no reason for that. Alice and Michele don't have time to babysit, this is a free forum, I for one am just grateful it exists. If you really want to see unprofessional go take a gander at "indeed.com"  type in medical billing and then "DUCK!" :)

Yell at me, correct my grammar, but don't call me names..or my claws do come out. I'm a very very passionate person and very passionate about what I do.

       I do always try to be honest, this is not an easy field, but I hope that I have never discouraged a newbie.  Newbies are why we started this forum and the reason that we began writing books.  And of course for us oldies who still have questions.  I don't care how long you've been doing this, there will always be something you don't know.  And if there isn't then you don't know squat ~ you just don't know that you don't know squat!  ;)  Just kidding.  Anyway, I personally don't mind the typos, grammar mistakes, and abbreviations.  I too am a prude ~ not all that old though!  Just a prude.  I admit I really don't even like LMAO.  However, I still have small children and 'stupid' is a swear word in our house.  I don't take offense, I just don't like it. 
      Anyway, back to the point!  Newbies are not only welcome, but wanted.  The only stupid question is an unasked one.  I truly mean that, and I hope I have never discouraged anyone with a post.  My personality is 'ever optomistic'.  My nickname is 'suzy sunshine'.  My glass is usually 2/3 full.  I'm sure you get the point.  The only time I feel I may have discouraged anyone is when I feel that the post was not genuine, meaning something like "I really want to do this field, can someone tell me how to bill?"  I am a strong supporter of keeping jobs in America.  I don't want to argue with anyone who feels differently, I respect their right to an opinion.  I just personally am a strong supporter of keeping jobs in America.  If I feel the post is very vague and someone 'fishing' I will respond rather short.
      I hate to think that newbies are afraid to post.  The most recent discouraging comments came from posters that will not be posting in the future.
