Billing for ST, OT
« on: November 02, 2011, 12:35:29 PM »
Hi group,

I have 2 questions related to ST, OT billing as its been a while.

Can speech bill any traditional OT codes for activities of daily living or the like-  97532, 97535, and 97537 (when working with adults with developmental disabilities or autism, there is such an overlap of functional living skills)?

For evaluations the office typically billed 97003 and often billed therapeutic activities = 97530, as well as self care = 97535.

If billing 97110 for therapeutic procedures and 97504 for orthotic fitting.  I want to know if we bill for therapeutic activities can we also bill for self care without one of the codes being denied.

You can bill for them, however, whether or not they will be allowed is going to vary from insurance carrier to insurance carrier and even from plan to plan within that insurance carrier.  Each plan and carrier will have their own rules and claim processing sets that will determine that.

Some insurance carriers have online tools that allow you to check coding to see if it is allowed or you could contact the provider rep or customer service rep of one of the major carriers and check with them.
