Allowables with two insurances
« on: June 05, 2012, 12:17:35 PM »
If a patient has Aetna insurance as a primary and BCBS as a secondary...

Aetna Allowable: $105
Aetna Paid: $83
Coinsurance: $22

BCBS Allowable: $80

Can we balance bill the patient the $22 since Aetna's allowable as primary is more than BCBS and they will not be issuing payment for the $22??

Thanks for any help in this matter...

If you're PAR with BCBS I don't believe that you can bill the patient for the balance.

That's correct, if you were non par then you could collect up to the Aetna Allowable.
