« on: December 20, 2013, 01:34:31 PM »
First of all i want to say Hi and Thank you for choosing my topic.

My issue is my sister`s neurologist is billing her for ANNUAL ADMINISTRATION FEE every year. So my question is there a CPT CODE FOR ANNUAL ADMINISTRATION FEE that can be bill to  private or medicare insurance?!
And is it possible that providers can charge for ANNUAL ADMINISTRATION FEE?!

Thank You!!!

Hi!  I bill for a doctor in southern CA who charges fees outside of what we bill insurance, and what it boils down to is that these fees are for non-billable (or another term is non-reimburseable) services.  Administrative fees are not billable to insurance, so from what I've learned, it is perfectly legal for your sister's doc to charge her an annual administrative fee.  Again, this is in CA, so I'm not sure about other states.  These services can be paid for by an HSA, if your sister has one.  I hope this helps, but I would certainly check w/ your state just to be sure!

Administrative fees can be charged by providers with disclosure in ther office financial polices. they cannot be billed to any insurance company as they are for non medical services. The provider should always charge and collect this fee up front, however to answer your question, yes it's legal. Ask the provider to send you a copy of the office financial policy signed when your sister first went in.. if there was none you should ask them to waive it.
