Know your marketing numbers

When we market our medical billing services, it's important to keep track of the results of our efforts. i.e. Do you go door to door? If so, you should know how many doors you visit (on average) = one customer. Telephone prospecting? How many phone contacts = 1 customer. Direct mail? How many mailers = 1 customer, and so forth. This is very important, yet many startups don't think to do this. Only by tracking our numbers (including costs) can we know what is working, and more importantly, what is not working. Please don't try to keep these numbers in your head, successful people think and plan on paper. These marketing statistics are vital if we want our business plan to be a roadmap to success rather than a dusty document sitting in a drop file.  If you're not a numbers geek, or simply don't like this part of the business, then find someone to do this for you, but don't ignore it, just remember, we're competing against some very large billing companies, and we need every advantage we can get.  :)
