Taxonomy - need to change?

(1/5) > >>

lacycr:
Hello - I wanted to see if anyone could give any insight to a provider joining our practice and if I need to change his taxonomy. I looked up NPI on NPPES and show his taxonomy is listed as "261QP2000X - Clinic/Center Physical Therapy." He currently works for a large hospitals smaller physical therapy clinics, they have several of them around town. Our practice is a smaller one office, he'll be the only physical therapist (with two chiropractors) and it'll be billed under our office TIN and NPI. Do I need to change his taxonomy to "225100000X - Physical Therapist" or does it make a difference?

Michele:
Some insurance carriers do use the taxonomy code when processing claims.  It is fairly easy to change/add a taxonomy code.  You just need to log into the NPPES system and go to that section.  You are able to change or add taxonomy codes.
