I have a question on copays and insurance payments. I consult for a practice where one specific plan of a payer consistently pays MORE than the billed fee.
The practice has reached out to let the payer know this and the payer still over pays. The allowed amount of course is much less than the billed amount. To compound the issue some patients have a copay and this has been collected also.
My question is with the consistent over pay, should the practice continue to collect the copay? Ethically i want to tell them they should but they are also collectively bringing in way more than the billed fee.
I am unsure of how to guide the practice especially when they have already contacted the insurance.
Does anyone have any suggestions.
