Help - non-billable provider type

(1/1)

tperian:
I have an ultrasound tech that owns her own mobile office.  i have two insurances that are listing her taxonomy as non-payable.  246XS1301X -- are there any ultrasound techs doing the same thing?  how did you get Tricare East and Cigna to cover your services?

Michele:
Is she credentialed with TRICARE East and CIGNA?  It sounds like they don't allow techs to own the business or that they require something/someone higher on staff.

tperian:
Michele,

That is correct.  They will not let her credential as an ultrasound tech.  Do you know what level she needs to be at in order to credential?  For example, PA or NP?  Is there a taxonomy that would be appropriate in this case?  It doesn't make sense to me that they will not allow her to bill for her services.  Would she need to file under a supervising physician?  I am at my wits end with this one...

Michele:
I am not sure.  But I know that we bill for a mobile xray and ultrsound company owned by an xray tech and he runs into issues with some carriers.  Most allow it.  But some don't because he doesn't have an MD/radiologist on staff.  Some only allow him to bill the TC.  But he does have an MD that signs off as a supervising DR and he uses a service to read the xrays.  Medicare allows and most commercial carriers.
