HOSPITAL FOLLOWUP

So patient is seen in the office for follow up after a hospital visit.   Rules say when billing 99495 or 99496 you have to wait 30 days from date of discharge  to bill the claim and the DOS you report is the 30th day.

Question is:  if the 30th day is a Saturday, Sunday or Holiday when the office is closed, do you STILL use that date of service?

I would use the 30th day, no matter what day it falls on because the description of the code is a "30 day period" so it ends on that 30th day.  The care is given during the 30 days so you aren't indicating that you saw the patient on the 30th day, just that you did the transitional care during the 30 day period.
