standard no show/missed/late appts

ok, most doctor's office have a clause stating that they charge for no show/missed/late cancellation appts.    I have even heard of some offices taking a credit card number before even scheduling initial visit so that if the patient does not show/missed, etc can be charged the fee.  My question is,  IS THIS LEGAL?

Actually it's NOT.  Although the FDCPA will allow for a patient to pre-authorize a credit card on file, you cannot do so for items not received or delivered by consumer laws. A no-show is NOT goods or services delivered therefore in violation of the consumer protection act.
