stagflation definition a difficult state of the economy when growth is sluggish and inflation is increasing. Unlike the normal recession, prices do not fall in stagflation; rather, prices remain the same or even increase. It is useful in preparing oneself for hard economic times. During such times, there may be low demand for goods and services coupled with increased costs for firms.
