Certification

MJ:
In doing a bit more research, it was recommended that I go to the website of "Medical Association of Billers".  They actually have a "Certified Medical Billing Specialist" course.  They also have sample questions that are on the test.  And, you can opt out of actually taking the course if you feel you can pass the test on your experience alone and apply for a "test out" where you just take the test.  It's true you do not have to be certified to do medical billing, but I would sure like that extra effort of getting certified noted on my resume.

I agree with getting the certificate, that is why I did as well.  That sounds really good what you found, if you can just take the test to get certified that is great!  I on the other hand probably wouldn't have passed or barely without taking the course simply because I never actually did any billing where I worked but I knew enough of the "prep" meaning making sure that all the patient demographics and insurance info was accurate, copays, ded., etc.  The course answered a lot of questions I had before.

Good luck and let me know how that works out for you.

Lesley :)
