chosing specialty to bill

(1/3) > >>

MBP:
I have only billed for a general surgeon so far and it took me quite some time to "get it". if i wanted to find a new provider, what is a good specialty to bill for? where do i learn specifics about each provider type? for my provider i searched internet for hours and days to get an answer to all billion of my questions.. are there courses or books for billing different specialties? i know Michele and Alice have some books that would help, but lets say i wanted to learn how to do billing for a obgyn or internal medicine, is research of these specialties specifics entirely on me and my googling abilities?  :P should i learn first and then do my marketing and try to get a client or should i get one first and then figure it out along the way?

PMRNC:
Personally let the specialty find you. That's what happened to me. I specialized in mental health and then later pediatrics.
Get your feet wet so that you can lend credibility to the specialty you lean towards, best to do that by keeping your marketing out there and diversified.

Pay_My_Claims:
YaY DME... ;D Yes I didn't chose it, it chose me.

PMRNC:

That's how it usually works. Think of it this way.. If you were to decide to specialize how would you gain credibility without having had done that specialty for a while in ADDITION to general practice or other specialties. You need the basics, and as you build the specialty will find you and they will "click"

MBP:
so i should just go ahead and market to all specialties and once i land a provider learn the differences on my own? i guess i am just a little worried if i can handle that because i havent billed for anyone but my provider (gen sur). i mean.. someone will code it all for me so.. i guess i need to know if the differences between the specialties are "easy to get" for someone who only ever billed for one provider..
