PCP change tomorrow

Hi.

I do billing from home for a practice & sometimes I find a comment that the patient will change his/her PCP the next day.  How does that help me?  Without calling each insurance company, I just wanted to know if they generally allow retroactive PCP changes.

Is the patient changing the PCP to the Dr you are billing for?  Usually most carriers will allow the PCP to be backdated up to a certain point.  I would watch to see if they are being denied.  IF they are, I would notify the office that they need to have the patients change the PCP the same day.
