ERA

dfranklin:
I have been posting my Ins. Payments with EOB's the providers been sending me. But I have switched to a new software and have set up ERA with the clearinghouse for any insurances that have it.  What impact will this have on the provider?  Will he still get any paper EOB's or ERA notices sent to him to let him know he got an EFT deposit or something sent to him with his check?

My provider likes to look over the EOB's so if he is not going to receive anything am I going to have to send him the ERA's?

I spent so much time doing the payments manually that I just had to swithc to EOB's.  One provider alone is doing like 600 claims a month.  I don't have any experience with ERA's which is why I was asking these questions and wondering how that is typically handled.

Thanks!

Pay_My_Claims:
The only company that I know of that sends out the EOB's if you get the ERA's is NC Medicaid.  We were mandated to go EFT because of the need to reduce paper. I have to fax a copy of the EOB to my provider when I download them.

Michele:
Most carriers do ERA's to replace the paper EOB's.  When we get an ERA we have to provide a copy to our provider.

that is a lot of extra paper and time and fax.. do you include this cost in the price for your billing services? i am trying to come up with the budget and see how much the expenses will be before i figure out how much to charge a provider.

Michele:
There is more cost in the paper, etc, but you save so much time in not having to enter the payments, that for us it's more than worth it.  We don't charge any extra.
