Compliance Plan

(1/1)

aceprocessing:
Hello,

I have been reading a lot about compliance plans and according to the OIG guidelines even for a small billing company it would be a good idea to have a plan in place. My company consist of my 2 daughters and myself. Do I really need a plan? and if so, Is there a sample to help me write one? I have a list of the elements the OIG states to impliment in a plan, but I am having difficulty putting one together. I have found some online but they don't seem to apply to my small business. Is there anyone who can assist me with this?

Thank you

You definitely should have one.  I do not have any samples.  Just start simple.  Here is the link to an article we wrote on compliance plans:

Go to the 7 suggestions at the bottom and start there.  It doesn't have to be formal for the situation you have now.  But you need to have it in place.

Yes, they are a must. Doctors are being educated more and more on outsourcing and what to look for. One of the things they are told at AMA conferences and other seminars is to ASK to see the compliance plan. VERY important.
Follow the OIG guidelines, add HIPAA and HITECH and Also add your own Policies & Procedures.  Do not look at others plans or try to do a boiler plate, remember that just having it isn't enough, it has to be followed.
