CPT 73140 xray finger (s): Can you bill more than one unit?

thelakeshow2k:
Dr performed xray on 3 fingers on right hand.  Does 73140 cover all fingers on one hand and should be billed 1 unit or should we bill 3 units for each finger?  thanks.

Michele:
It doesn't go by the number of fingers xrayed, but by the number of views taken.

Michele

thelakeshow2k:
Let me rephrase: if the dr xrays 3 fingers with 2 views each, i will be using cpt 73140 but will i bill 73140 x3 or x1?

Michele:
Ohhhh, Ok, that would be 3 separate xrays of the fingers, 2 views each, which would be 3 units, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is not processed correctly, and it required an adjustment.

Michele

Priyan:
Yes we can bill Three xrays for different sites.

to avoid either denials as duplicate or inclusive.

Use MODIFIERS F1 to F9 depending upon the digit for which X-ray taken
