97039 Problem with Erie
«

I bill for a chiro and we have been submitting cpt 97039 for Q1000 laser and we put this in remarks. It has been fine and insurances have been paying. But we ran into ERIE insurance stating the following "MISUSE OF MISCELLANEOUS CODE. SPECIFIC CPT CODE EXISTS" We are not aware of a specific CPT code existing for this. Has there been any changes? Or does anyone know of a CPT that we should be using instead? All other carriers from BCBS to State Farm etc have been accepting 97039.
THanks!

S8948 seems to be what some insurance carriers are requesting that providers use. It is: "Application of a modality (requiring constant provider attendance) to one or more areas, low-level laser, each 15 minutes"
