--- Quote ---If you know of something that I am misunderstanding with the Timely filling it would be greatly appreciated as if like you said I can go back 5 years I might be able to get some more money on accounts that I thought were uncollectable  Smiley

There are TWO things to consider .. Timely filing referring to "claim to insurance company" and then STATE Law; Statute of limitations for billing the patient. A lot of times you can find the statute of limitations under rules for collections by state.
And yes there are states with 5 years on statute of limitations. THIS is not the insurance carrier, their rules on timely filing is different.

Yes oregon is 5 years and I would like to add that it would be 5 years from last payment. so lets say pt has been paying for 3 years and then stops you have 5 years after the last payment received. so essentially 8 years ofter DOS.

Sorry about the confusion was not on the same train of thought as you.  :'(

so many rules so little time... ::)

Another good point made!! :)

I know that in some states if the patient sends in a partial payment AND the office accepts it/cashes, or deposits it they have accepted a payment policy under the FDCPA..but then the patient has obligated themselves to send the same amount at the same time each month, if the patient misses a month.. you can proceed with collections.
