How to handle documentation for sservices

If you are billign from home, and the insurance needs documentation for services, is it appropriate to ask the office to fax/secure email the information? Wouldn't it kind of deeat the purpose of having an off-siote billing service, if the office still has to do the work? How would you handle that?

DMK:
Be prepared for this more and more often.  Even if the doctor was doing his own billing, he would have to provide documentation if requested.  You may want to get the information yourself so you can keep it on file it they want it again!

Also, the dr is only responsible for getting the requested info to you, you are responsible for making sure all other information (appeal form, letter, eob, etc) is attached, that it gets to the correct place, and follow up on it to make sure it is handled.  Still easier than having someone in the office in many cases.  This is where a lot of providers lose money, their people do not do this.

PMRNC:
The exception to this is mental health. Because providers have to send OTR's after so many visits (depending on the authorization) the OTR's have to come from the provider. A good mental health biller will have a system in place to remind the provider an OTR is needed and when it needs to be submitted, most of them are done "online" and because it is "clinical" in nature it is NOT recommended the biller do these at all!
