MRI BILLING LEFT SHOULDER

(1/4) > >>

KARREN:
When billing mri shoulder (LEFT)  techinal part..   do you have to add the LT modifer also?
whould it be 73221 TC LT,  73221 99 TC LT, or just 73221 TC..   need help
mri left should w/o contrast..  thank you so much..

Michele:
The cpt 73221 is for MRI joint upr extrem w/o dye.  I am not a certified coder.  Since the joint is not being identified, I wouldn't think it would be required to identify which side the joint is on.  I don't know why you are considering the 99 modifier since it is for modifier overflow and there is room for 4 modifiers.  You are only considering 2.

Just curious, how is the billing coming over to you?  Isn't it coded when it comes?  Unless you are a coder they should be indicating the way they want it submitted.

KARREN:
They send the billing over as 73221 mri shoulder (LEFT)..   it is coded in the system as 73221 mri joint uppr extrem w/o contrast.. I have been billing 73221 TC , I was just curious.. about the other modifers.. after doing reseach online through different websites and communications with other billers..  I always get accurate information through this forum (the bes)..  thank you guys so so much.. I truely appreciate it..

Michele:
Always glad to help!   ;D  It's also always good to be checking into things to make sure you are doing all possible and appropriate.
