When to use type of Bill 331 for HHA?

Hi there!

I have just started doing billing for a home health agency. I am little bit confused when to use the TOB 331 when billing medicaid. I know that is admit through discharge type of bill, but not sure if it is for patients that are discharged within 20 days from the admit date or is used for a different period of time? And if that's the case does anyone know if it is only for 20 consecutive visits or can be used even when there are not consecutive ones?  Here is an example to make it easier: I have a patient that is having skilled nursing visits twice a week and it was discharged after 40 days from the admit date. Total billable days are 10. Can 331 be use in these case or 332, 333 and 334 are the right type of bills since admit through discharge period is more then 20 days??

I would really appreciate some help!

Thank you!

Michele:
All info I have points to 331 for admit thru discharge.  Rules for your state's Medicaid may be different, you didn't specify the state, but it looks like the 331 is right.

Sorry, I didn't specify the state. Is Massachusetts actually.

Michele:
I'm not familiar with Massachusetts specifically, but like I said, the 331 seems correct for what you describe.

Thanks a lot Michele!

I have another question though! Can TOB 334 be used when the episode ends and the patient is re certifying or can be used only when the patient is completely discharged?

Thank you in advance!
