Implementation of ICD-10

Just wanted to toss this out to the group to see what the general feeling is out there. I would also be interested in hearing your thoughts on payer readiness for these changes; some IT execs estimate one third of payers will probably not be ready by 10-1-13 and will probably require some type of dual processing (ICD-9 dx codes and ICD-10 codes) after the implementation date.

I have heard that most carriers will NOT be ready and that they plan on converting the MANDATORY ICD 10's back to ICD 9's which will be a nightmare because there is no real 'conversion'. They are very different systems. I personally think that if the providers are required to use them that the carriers should be required to accept them. If the carriers are not going to be ready then they should push back the implementation.

I don't think they will dump ICD10.. that would be foolish since it is a MUCH easier coding method?? But I do expect we will see 2 or 3 even, delay's as with ANY change. They set a date, then push it back.. that's way it always happens.

I agree with Linda, they won't dump it, but it may see a couple delays.
