Pay_My_Claims:
Hi,
I have a question(s) for starting a Billing Service. Do you have to become a network provider to submit claims for your physician? I am pretty sure I have to obtain my own provider numbers (BCBS, Medicare, Medicaid etc for billing purposes. When I set up to file electronically for my providers am I setting that up for me to submit the claim, not per sey for each individual provider that I am billing for correct. I appreciate all your help. Doing the billing for the providers is certainly easier than setting up your own practice.

Michele:
Insurance companies don't credential billing services.  Medicare does not assing PTAN's to billing services either.  Some insurance companies require you to submit paperwork to be eligible to submit claims electronically and you may be issued a submitter number.  A billing service only needs one submitter number for a company to submit claims for all providers they bill for.

Hope that clears it up.

Yes that does....you have been an excellent help. I have set the insurance company's up with the provider I worked for to submit claims electronically, but was curious as a third party biller if I had to do that for each individual provider I would be billing for *wipes sweat from brow*

Michele:
Good, glad to help.

P.S.  I like your tag line.  :)
