kwardbilling:
Just wanted to send a quick post.  I've been extremely busy and, to my loss, I haven't been on this site very often.  I hope everyone is well, and I'm looking foward to catching up on some reading.

I have been doing strictly mental health and enjoying it, however, I have been approached by a chiropractor to do some billing.  I'm thinking of taking this on, learning curve.......so I'll be reading up a little bit on that...

thanks
Karen

Michele:
Glad to have you back.  I don't want to offend any DC's out there, we bill for many, but it is a tough time for them right now.  They've been hit hard by the Medicare pre-edit audits and by the new workers comp rules.  Just wanted to mention that as you said you are considering branching out.

kwardbilling:
thanks, the only reason I was considering it is because I've been approached by someone who wasn't pleased with their biller.......not sure if I'll take it on, just in the thinking process....I really enjoy the mental health and that is my preference.....time will tell, I'll keep you updated....

Michele:
Well I hope I didn't discourage you, but I honestly felt that I had to mention the problems they are facing.  I feel for them as well but I'm not surprised by what is happening.  Unfortunately their are some DC's who bill incorrectly and so both Medicare and WC finally decided to come down on the entire specialty to attempt to put a stop to it.  I bill for many chiros most who are very concerned about their patients, very caring, and only treat and BILL FOR what needs to be treated and billed for.  On the other hand, I do believe that a lot of DC's help patients, especially elderly ones by preventing them from deteriorating to a point that they are in pain, but Medicare is very clear that they do not pay for maintenance.  Personally I think that many patients benefit from maintenance and that it ends up saving money in health care in the long run but that is not how the Medicare plan works.  And again, unfortunately their are DC's out there who once they get a patient in the door they keep them coming once or twice a week forever not based on the patient's condition.  :(  But their are bad apples in every specialty out there!

kwardbilling:
Thanks very much for the opinion!!  I really do appreciate the thoughts.....and I do agree......I'm leaning towards staying with what I am comfortable with....

thanks again
Karen
