Taxonomy code for LPC with PhD and MA

Hi!

I need your expertise with the taxonomy code for an LPC with PhD degree and an LPC with only an MA degree. Is there a difference. I was looking for it in the Wpc website. Apparently, there is one for Counsellors with a sub category for Professional and one for Mental Health. But it did not indicate whether it would be for MA or Phd.

Your expertise is always appreciated.

Thank you,

Michele:
The question is are they are counselor or a psychologist?  Taxomony codes do not really go by the degree, they go by the provider.  If the provider is a counselor with a PhD or or are they a Psychologist?  If they are a counselor (with an MA or a PhD) then they would use the taxonomy for counselor.  If they are a psychologist, they would use the taxonomy for psychologist.

I hope that helps.   :-\

Thanks Michelle. But under counselor there is mental health and professional. The providers are LPC's. And there isn't any description on the wpc website abt the difference.

Sorry am new to the mental health world. :). I got your book on that under a different email. :). It was very enlightening.

Michele:
When I do NPI apps for LPC's I always pick the "professional".  The LPC is a Professional Counselor and mental health counselor to me is less descriptive.

Hope that helps!
